While I love driving the Avalon - I've also got an '00 Mustang GT. That thing is brutal compared to the Toyota but it's a lot of fun when you wanna hang the rear-end out in corners, when you really want to hear (and feel) the exhaust!

Anyone else have one?

No, I sure don't, but I love that car! I always notice them on the road. Definitely too much for me to handle (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

My dad has a very old one. It is in great condition, however, he only cruises with it probably once a year. He is not a car collector, but can't seem to get the nerve to get rid of it. I think he should drive it more, but it is his "baby" and he wants to keep it in mint condition for some reason!

Depending on which model (engine, interior, features) it could be a very valuable car. If that's the case it's often better to not rack up the miles on it. Look at it this way - you could be inheriting a cherry car!

I had a 1997 Mustang, purple. While I loved the way the car looked, I was not happy with the way it handled. It was choppy and more like a sedan than a sports car. I traded it in less than a year.

I don't have one, but I'd love to get a Saleen.
They're great cars; nice look and features....irresistible!

The only mustangs worth their weight are the Mach Ones or the 03-04 Cobras...from a sports car point of view. Everything else is piss poor slow. But, the Fox Body stangs could be had for cheap and are cheap to make fast.

Totally agreed. My brother in law has an 06 GT. That thing has no room, is rough handling (then again he's not the best driver) and it feels heavy. Yes the car is faster than my corolla, but I have more fun driving the heck out of it.

Also agree with the 5.0s they weren't the greatest mustangs, but they could take a beating, not to mention how easy and relatively cheap they are to make fast.

So it wasn't my over active imagination that made me thing it was rather slow on the uptake! That's good to know.

As far as sports cars go, the Mustang isn't even on my top 10 list.

I have to admit the I've been a Mustang fanatic for over 20-years. Up till last year there were two in my garage, a 2000 GT and an '82 Notchback. The wife still drives the 2000. While they're fun to drive, they're not exactly the most sophisticated or overly comfortable. I'm trying to convince the wife to consider something other than the new Mustangs. I'm thinking the next sporty car in our garage will be along the lines of the Infiniti G35 or the Nissan Z.

What can I say? The Avalon spoiled me!

You could get a GTO for the price of a g35, and it would kill it...on interior quality too. Its designed by aussies not americans, but it comes with the ls2, so your getting 400 hp and 400lb of torque . Plus it comes with the time tested t56 6 speed and an IRS. Its a little on the heavy side, but a way nicer ride than the g35 or 350z. Plus you wouldnt like the interior of the g35, I belive it was rated as cheap. You could also check out the saturn sky or pontiac solstice. Why doesnt toyota have a competition type car anymore?

I'm pretty familiar with the GTO. Good friend of mine ferries me around in his when I'm in Vegas. Faster'n hell and definetely a nice car - but not for me. The Solstice and Sky just don't 'do it' for me either.

It's not just about HP or torque. I'm more looking for the overall package. So far the G35 has my eye.

Toyota is supposed to come out with the new supra next year. We'll see. As per existing cars, probably a 350Z if I want performance.

I drove a 2006 z350 around the UK last year, and loved it! What a great car, and if I could afford a second car this would be it! Unfortunately, it isn't so good in ice and snow lol.

I hate when people complain about driving sports cars in bad weather. I actually read a letter in the Chicago Tribune from a guy complaining that he couldnt get his trans am up his drive way in the snow. He actually said it was the vehicles fault. Well, any ***** knows what to expect from a 340hp rwd car in the snow. I actually drove my Camaro SS through 2 winters with snow, and all it takes it to be a little cautious. I even did it with drag radials on the back tires. They were literally rock hard, I pictured the flintstones wheels when I felt them in the cold. Thanfully its a weekend warrior now.

Now that's funny about the flintstones tires. I hate that too about people complaining about the RWD cars on snow, ice, rain. If you can't be cautios and learn how to drive, then get yourself an awd or at least a fwd vehicle.

My mother has a white 2005 Mustang, because Mustangs are of course the birthright of all women named Sally. Took her half her life, but she finally has one.

There's also one driving around the city with custom plates that say "SAHLEE". Apparently the owner has a problem with people thinking the H comes before the A and pronouncing it thus. Still fun though.
