I've just done a test run using a mix of 50/50 diesel and ultra-filtered used canola cooking oil.

The results were excellent.

The engine runs a lot smoother, has more power, shifts earlier and smoother - overall a very pleasing result.

I can run higher percentages of cooking oil as long as the weather is warm.

So far I have not had to modify my van at all.

I've read in a magazine where they used that kind of vegetable oil in a tractor. But they used it purely so no diesel in it. It run quite well expect the starting was something took too much time so they got second tank for starting with diesel. After engine started they used that vegetable oil.
They compared that starting with that oil in temperature of 20 degrees Celsius was as hard as starting with a diesel in minus 20 degrees.
Also in the story they build a new tank to circle the cooling system inside the tank to heat up the oil.

Hey,

We are driving our Hiace down to Mexico from BC and plan to use BioDiesel most of the way. I'll let you know the results when we get back. I do know that a fuel filter / line change is a good idea before using BioD and plan to do that shortly.

How do you filter your cooking oil - I presume you are using "used, recycled" oil ?

Mate

Have you considered using something eles. I use a hydrogen generater that uses only water as a catalist. It isnt dangerous at all. You can make one yourself with two bits of 316 stainless steal plates with a tea spoon of costic soda but use rain water or supermarket water as tap water is to dirty and wont work as well. Put the plates into a container and suck the gas into the inlet manifold. Iv used this process now for a few years and get 20-45% fuel saving.

If you want more info just go onto google video or yourtube and type run your car on water and 100ds of vids will be there. This will give you a guide on how to make a hydrogen unit for your car. Dont aim for 100% water to run your car cause its harder than most people think trust me iv been trying for years but you will get a percentage fuel saving.

You can also check out Panacea.org witch has heaps of info on this sort of stuff or go to George Wisemans site at Eagle research and chech his stuff.

If you have EFI you need to do a mod on the oxy sensor to get a fuel saving as well which if you email panacea.org they will point you in the right direction.

If you have trouble finding them just type panacea free energy into your search engine and youl find them. THey are a non profit org who just want to help mankind.

I only recomend Panacea cause everyone eles just wants to sell you a unit and panacea will have links into making a unit yourself or give out the info you need.

Iv run a car on cooking oil before it is smoother and smells great. I know where you are coming from.

I dont check the forums out much but if you need any other info just email me at damiencheryl@hotmail.com and ill answer any questions if you dont understand something.

All the best Damien

Hi,
I've just run my second tank of 50/50 veg oil and diesel and my van is running really rough! The first tank was a mixture of canola oil and diesel poured straight into the tank and it ran fine. Then I used Tesco 100% vegatable oil and the van hasn't been the same since. I've tried to flush the mix through with 100% diesel and using diesel redex, no joy. I trying my last resort now, acetone (nail varnish remover) as described on a thread somewhere. Its supposed to break the surface of the oil and help it to mix. I'll let you know how that goes. Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers, Neil

First thing I would do is replace your fuel filter.
The hydrocarbons in the diesel oil can cause a coagulation of protenicious materials in the veg oil and you will probably find this has happened in your case. If this is so, a filter change and a fill with nothing but diesel will solve the problem.
You will then be able to run on 50 50 without a problem.

PS, when you get the filter changed, go out and drive the van like you stole it! This will help things to clear out.

Try to use canola oil or peanut oil.

Vegetable oil is not quite the same.

The oil that I am using is waste frying oil from a fish and chip shop (which is canola oil) and it is very well filtered by the time it gets into my tank.

Thanks Al, Fella's,
I've changed the filters etc and got it back to normal again! During the whole debacle I found a great little site about bio fuel.

Check this link out. http://www.vegetableoildiesel.co.uk/forum/...play.php?fid=11

I intend to get back on the SVO asap. I just need to find out a bit more about my van, ie: I need to establish what engine architecture I have and what kind of injection pump (1999 2.4L powervan). Any idea's?

Cheers, Neil.
