i have a 1996 rav with the automatic trans , and she is AWD. she has 225,000+ miles and still going. the 2 problems are ,

1st. when under a hard acceleration, she shifts very hard through all the gears . when easy acceleration she shifts smooth. problem is the same when cold or at operating temps.

2nd is when cold che goes into reverse fine , but when at normal operating temps she won't go into reverse unless you rev it un around 2000 to 2500 rpm.

she has had all the normal fluid flushes and filter services that toyota recommended.

been like this for a while and hasen't gotten any worse but i am getting sick of it.

just wondering if it is an easy fix , or if i should drive it till the trans quits and replace thr tranny at that time

thanks

Have you adjusted the throttle cable? An improperly adjusted throttle cable can lead to incorrect trans pressures, hard or soft shifts, and premature trans wear.

Have you done any tests? Stall test, lag test, pressure test? Do you know how the trans functions? Which clutches, brakes are applied and when. I can go over the operation with you and possibly pinpoint the issue. At least give you a better idea than just saying you have a trans prob.
