Just noticed that when cold the Caldina won't change into OD for about 3km from a cold start.
Never really noticed it before when putting to work from home and around town.

But if I go from starting it first thing in the morning then go on the open road it takes about 3km to finally go into over drive.
Setting the Auto to manual and using the tip-tronic makes no difference it refuses to got to OD (4th)
Now anybody else here noticed this ?
Does the computer not allow it to switch until a certain temperature is reached ? (to me most likely)
Is the Oil too thick ?
Or is there something more sinister at play here ?

Once it goes into OD the car works just fine.
Ambient temperature at the moment is about 2degC

Yep I have noticed the exact same thing. I thought it had something to do with the transmission temperature or oil viscosity.

I found this with mine also. I asked a Toyota mechanic who advised to check the transmission oil levels, but to do it when the transmission oil was hot, not cold.

I found it needed a little oil and after adding it the length of time time took to drop into overdrive decreased. Might have been coincidence but worth checking.

Checked the oil while it was hot and was at the full mark
Winter is all but over now, so won't be long and I won't notice this issue till next winter.

Its normal. The car is preventing itself from going into overdrive until it warms up so that it warms up quicker.
The quicker it reaches normal operating temp, the more efficient it runs and the lower the emissions.
