Well muzza, the MR2 is, as i'm sure you know, a rear engine rear wheel drive car. Alot of the weight is set back towards the ass end and if you really get on it, the back tires can break loose. Maybe some better tires would help unless your driving really hard. I have Falken Ziex on my car and I can't praise them enough. They have a really big 'contact patch' making the car stick to the road like glue. When does the back come out?...when it's wet? dry? snowy?
let us know
-mainsoda

Muzza2001uk,
The funny thing is that there is really not alot you can do. Because the car is rear drive and has alot of tork, this will happen. Don't worry after awhile of driving it you will learn how to control it. The question about tire size. I have been to few tire places around here and they insist that you can go up to a 16" wheel but no larger then a 195, and in my personal experience I wouldn't go lower then a 50 series tire.

muzz,
once you get it in the dry you will be smiling alot. Your car handles like a dream when it's nice out...thats what it was made for.
Concerning tires, the conventional wisdom is to not go taller than stock as this will cause your cars already weak low end torque to be furthur diminished. But I hear you when it comes to wide! I personally broke with tradition and got slightly taller and a bit wider tires 195/60 series. The wheel wells are on the small side and really fat fat tires would require a cutting torch.(thats not for me)
The car is still a rocket over 4000 rpm, and seems like it's straining less on the freeway at 70mph. The kind of tires I personally bought are Falken Ziex, they have a radical yokohama type contact patch that is so sticky it's amazing. I reccomend performance tires...this car is to good to NOT have them.
As far as over sized wheels...just pay careful attention to your MR2's funny offset and you'll be ok.
hope this helps
-mainsoda
