Hi all, my '95 Camry has an intermittent backup light issue I hope you can help with. When you shift the car into reverse, the "R" light on the dash will flicker, and will often stay on if you wiggle the shift lever a bit. The backup lights on the trunk lid seem to match this operation. I did check the wiring harness in the trunk, and it seems to be OK (no problem with the 90 degree bend at the hinge).

It obviously looks like there is a sensor or switch on the shift lever that activates the lights on the dash and the backup lights. Could any of you let me know where this switch is located and how to get to it?

Thanks for all your help!!

Well, I think I found the answer. There is a switch on the transmission called the "park-neutral position switch" that indicates where the shift lever is located. It is on the lower right front of the transmission looking in the engine compartment. According to the service manual this could cause the problem. The switch on mine is covered with grime, perhaps the cable harness is dirty.

BTW, here's a link to a free download of the '94 Camry factory service manual:

http://www.onlinefreeebooks.net/automotive...manual-pdf.html

Be advised it is a HUGE download, 113 meg, and is compressed in .rar format. Here's the link to a utility to uncompress .rar files:

http://www.7-zip.org/

Factory service manuals are wonderful things BTW. Hope these links help you out there in Camryland.

Hello MKB,

I tried using the link "www.onlinefreeebooks.net" you suggested to get 94 Camry Service manual.
But looks like the site admin already deleted this probably because it's pretty old.
I wonder if you still have the file and do me a favor sending it to me.

Thank you in advance.
