[IT depends. I have never gone up on the actual rim size, but only the tire size. I think the smoothness of the ride would depend more on which kind of tires you have (even though I know the rim size does account for tire size too). We purchased the Goodyear run-flats about five years ago and swore to never do it again. It felt like you were cruising on gravel.

What size rims do you have on there now and what size were you looking to go to?

You can put 20"s onit but you will have to have low profile tires.

Wow 20" now that would be a ride. Wonder if anyone has a picture of one done that way.

I dunno but a 20" rim on a camry looks pretty dumb. The car will actually raise up a bit and the tires would have to be pretty thin. The ride will be rough in my opinion.

It seems like it would be a rough ride. I think I would go with factory rims and tires myself.

If you want rims, which I am doing to my corolla, you don't want to go any bigger than 2 inches over factory (diameter). At the same time, you must compensate on the width as well, 2 inches over max. The tire sidewall must be smaller, to compensate, giving you the same total outer diameter as the factory. This will keep the car riding smooth, and can actually give you better handling.

20"s is the maximum you can put. I'll suggest that you get an OE 17" Toyota wheelfrom a Camry. or anything similar. Don't go anything higher that 17's if your also considering comfort. Having thinner tires means lower comfort for the passenger and a noisier ride from the inside of the car.
