Does the 92 diesel Hiace have a stock block heater? I looked for a plug but couldn't find it. Is it possible to just buy a cord that attaches with a wiring harness or would I need to get a whole block heater to install? Anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks.

Do you mean that block heater is preinstalled in factory? I would say no. Some countries local importers install those heaters to all vans.
But if it's installed, all I've seen are situated at the back, you see it properly when you open the cover from cargo/back seats side.

There are some options to use but don't know how easy it is to find one there.
And if ablility to install yourself, won't be so expensive.
The price of heater is here equal to 90 USD and wiring the same so about 180 USD totally.

Hey,

I recently looked into this, and by far far far, the easiest thing to do is to install an inline coolant heater. You just cut the bottom radiator hose and install it in there with hose clamps. This is the best option because inline coolant heaters are generic and all you need to know is the internal diameter of your rad hose, which is not hard to find out. Plus, they only cost about 40 bucks.

Do they work as well? Yes. I live in Whitehorse, Yukon and have been driving our van using this (in addition to a battery blanket and oil pan heater) through a month of -30 to -40 deg C straight. I was nervous at first that it would be a waste of money, but now I am very happy with this decision.

Basically, it heats the coolant in and around the heater unit, and that heat is transferred to the engine block through the mixing and conduction of the heat through the coolant. I usually try to have it plugged in at least 3 hours before driving.

Let me know how this goes and if you do get a block heater. I'm going to be moving to Winnipeg in a year or so and want to be able to keep my van.
