Has anyone experienced this before and know how to fix it? My 77 Celica GT LB brake lights have been staying ON sometimes after I take my foot OFF the brake pedal (and turn off the ignition). Normally, when I put my foot on the brake pedal, I hear a clicking sound as I depress the pedal and another when I lift my foot off the pedal. Lately it has NOT been making that sound all the time. This sound must be related to the lights staying on but I don't know anything about the mechanics of this or how serious it is. When the lights are stuck ON, I can play with the pedal and get them to turn off but I have to remember to look and see if they are stuck on. The ESP sensors do not have anything lit up related to brakes or brake lights. Thanks for your help!

Sounds like the switch at the brake pedal is sticking. Stick your head under the dash and follow the arm of the brake pedal up and you will see there is a little push button switch the pedal rests against when the pedal is released. When you push the pedal the button is released and switches power to the brake lights. You best bet is probably to go down to the local pull your own part style wreckers and grab a replacement. Should just unscrew after you unplug the wire connection. Hope this helps. Cheers Glen RA40 (3TGTE) RA40 (18RC) RA28 (18RG)

If it's bad then you will need a new one of course. But, if it's just come loose and pushed back a bit then a little adjustment will fix it right up. You can adjust the distance to the pedal and that's just by two nuts to the bracket. If you stick your head down under the dash it's pretty easy to see. The relay/switch thing that clicks, then there's the threading and button coming out of it. You can see two nuts and then they are tightened down to a bracket. Then when the brake pedal releases, it goes back and pushes the button in. Or maybe the wire that comes off of it has come unconnected. That would be an easy fix. Hope all this makes sense. Just take a look and it's really simple. Later, Adam http://209.90.120.14/celica/index.html
