At least once every three days as I am driving I feel like a thump and my brakes don't catch like if the ABS is doing some weird things. If i pump again usually it will stop. I am not sure what this is all about. The fluid is ok and the brakes seem to be ok.

If anyone has had this problem or any suggestions please advise.

As always I am always ready to help anyone with any of the experiences and solutions I have had on my 2000 Taco.

Thanks to all of you that has made this forum possible.

Jimmy

I would pull the wheels and take a look around. Is it coming from the front or back? I had problems one time with rear drum brake hardware that broke and made some weird noises. Can you feel anything in the pedal?

Thanks for you response. I do feel it in the pedal. It seems to be coming from the front.

I don't think it has anything to do with your brakes. All 1st gen Tacos are notorious for axle wrap. It occurs when your rear leaf packs have lost their arch. Below is a link to describe what axle wrap is. One way to solve this is to replace with new leaf packs, AALs or a traction bar.

I'm getting the same on my 99 Taco. Out of no where the breaks loose power and it feels like the ABS is locking or something. I think its the ABS becasuse of how it feels when ABS is actually used. Just remember the pump once and it goes away.
I just bought a 4D 05 TRD Sport and need to sell the 99. I want to fix the problem because it's hard to explain to new owner.
Taxman, new daddy.

That is exactly what is going on with my Taco. If you pump it it goes away. The problem is that you never know when this is going to happen and can be a bit dangerous. I am hoping that someone out there has had this problem so I can remedy the problem.

Like always thank you all for your input.
