I want to replace my front bench seat in my '72 FJ-40 with 2 bucket seats. I was wondering where I could find some. I need ones that will install over a front gas tank. If you have anything helpful I would appreciate it. Reply or E-mail at Kinger_2k@...

Hi

I've got a '72 FJ40 also, and I've got a pair of late 70's model Ford Thunderbird buckets up front. The passenger's seat is immobile, and it sits kind of forward, but that's because the rear jump seat on that side is still there. The driver's seat moves back & forth like normal - but there's no jump seat on that side. They're not bad - I don't have a lid for my truck, so they've been weather-beaten, but so what - they're from a T-bird. ;)

Unfortunately, they were already in the truck when I got it, so I don't know how tricky they were to get in. I'll be yanking them out to put a new gas tank in later this summer though. As far as I can tell, they're sitting on the original seat frame that holds them over the gas tank, and it doesn't look like any hysterics were involved getting them in.

I don't know what kind of money you want to spend; I've seen some FJ40s with Recaro seats in them. But - do you want to spend that kind of money then go get 'em covered in mud?

I'd say figure out whose bucket seats you like best and check out the boneyards. Some places even pull seats from wrecks so you won't have to. From what I've seen, you'd probably pay anywhere between $25-100 a seat.

Good luck. Let us know what you end up doing & how it goes!

Peace,
Jake
