Hi all
I have a couple of questions.
I have an imported Hiace camper from Japan all camping electrics is 100V
What system do I need to install in my van to allow mains hook up and dual charging for accessory batterys?

I was thinking of a 600W contin Inverter (peak around 1200W)
With a onboard battery charger that will work when hooked up to the mains and a diode set up for charging the batteries when driving?

I would like any suggestions / experiences with this type of set up, what do you have?
Also wiring diagrams would be great as well?
I do plan on installing myself..

Thanks a bunch

Ok, as an electrician, this is what I recommend you do:

1) Disconnect all the 100 volt wiring and sockets/switches/lights etc. They won't like having 240 volts put through them. Change the incoming socket and cord arrangement on the outside of the van to whatever the standard is in the UK for caravans - because this is effectively what your camper is.

2) Change the switchboard/fusebox inside your camper to one that is UK standard. Fit new lamps/switches/outlets that are rated to 240 volts.

3) Make absolutely sure that the incoming socket has an earth connection and that this is securely and properly connected to the chassis of your camper. A lot of 100 volt Japanese stuff doesn't use any earthing system.

4) If all this is too complex for you, find a sparky who deals with caravans and get him to sort it. Much safer at the end of the day.
