Hi,
I have a 4 cylinder Camry XL and took it to a local mechanic (in Saudi) to fix a slightly noisy exhaust system. He found a problem with a flexible 'weaved metal' sort of part that joins the exhaust pipe just behind the front wheel area. I got under the car with him and saw that this part had indeed a small hole that was a likely cause of the noise, so he replaced it.
After he was done, I started the car up but there was still some noise which baffled the both of us. He suspected it was a cracked exhaust manifold, so he took the cover off, and yes there was a crack there. So replaced that, started the car up and it sounded much better.
However, I still was not entirely comfortable with the results, since I could still feel hear a slightly 'raspy' noise from the exhaust at a certain RPM range (around 2500 - 3000 RPM). It was less obvious though when the car was still than when on the road. This was accompanied by a slight vibration, also when the car was in gear in this RPM range.
I will take it to the dealer sooner or later (an ordeal in itself, since they're usually overbooked and costlier than local shops), but if I had a clue what the problem may be, I would rather fix it sooner at a local shop.
Anyone have an idea what this may be? The car has only 78000km, very well taken care of and (mostly) serviced at the dealer thus far.
Thanks for listening!
