Hi All,

I have a 2002 camry le 4 cyl. I had the ATF flush @ 30,000mi. I now have 90,000mi on it and Toyota recommends a flush again. I had heard that after 100,000mi or harsh driving, Toyota does not recommend a flush because the clutch(s) in the transmission deteriorate and a flush will actually remove some of the clutch(s) material and the transmission will shift hard or even slip. They recommend only a drain and fill. Should I just get a drain and fill to be safe? HELP!

Just drain and refill. It isn't necessary to do the power flush for the reasons you mentioned.

I agree, I just drain and refill every 15 k or so. Got over 200K on it now. Dealer service writers work on commission. They will happily sell you expensive extra service that (usually) can't hurt because it means $$ for them. This doesn't mean necessary service should be neglected but get a Haynes manual and follow it rather than what the dealer tells you "Toyota says". Cars are not selling well, they apparently think it is time to feast on those who keep theirs. What does the dealer want for a timing belt/water pump change these days, they use to "special offer" it for under 200 bucks. Wonder what has changed.
