My 96 2.2 Le Camry engine turns, but does not start. I was driving the car and it cut off and hasnt started up yet. I have checked all the relays and fuses. fuel pump does not make a sound in the start position. I have also tried to start the engine with starter fluid and didnt start, but a flame did expode out of the air intake (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sunce.gif) . new tune tune up,timing belt is still ok,coil ok. i might just change the fuel pump out,but I hope there isnt something else wrong with it. any segestion?

Don't replace the fuel pump w/o some troubleshooting. There are several things that can cause a no-start.

This car is OBD-II. Have you read the stored codes? If you don't have a scan tool, I strongly urge you to get one.

Same thing happened to me. Turned out to be the timing belt. These go out at around 80K miles.

Honestly, I am not sure I just bought this car and it seems to be covered up by some sort of housing. It it on the passenger side of the engine. Perhaps pick up a haynes manual or I am sure somewhere on the internet may have instructions.

Found this link on another message board. Good luck.

I replaced the waterpump 6 months ago and the timingbelt still looked new. I was told not to replace it because it was in a good condition. I wonder if it is the fuel regulator.
