I have the tool to remove the tire but it seems to be locked in place. Can anyone help?

Spray down all the linkages, nuts, bolts, etc. with some PB Blaster for a few days in a row and see if that works. Parts of it may be rusted out.

Thanks about spraying down everything. I did that to no avail. I'll try again to see if it loosens up.

Is there a lock or something else on it? Could it be something getting caught in the linkages?

I will have to take a closer look underneath. I don't think there is any lock on it.
Thanks

I had a similar problem with my '88.

You may have to cut the chain. I did.
Good news is that there is enough chain remaining on the lift mechanism to splice back together to make it work.

Once your spare is off, you can (using a breaker bar) remove the entire mechanism.

I soaked the entire mechanism in a coffee tin full of WD40. Within 3 days the whole mechanism was loose. Then packed the whole thing with bearing grease and reinstalled.

Worked great ever since.

Every year you need to move the mechanism or it will seize over winter.

If i can help, PM me....cause i'm not on these forums very often unless there's a complaint.

Thank you pongo. Sounds like good advice. Does anyone know where I can get a diagram of the spare tire mechanism? This would help tremendously if I knew exactly how the spare tire mechanism works.

Thanks, Padre
