Hi,

First, some background on my problem... I have a 1995 Toyota Avalon and had some work done a
couple of years ago at a Toyota dealership to fix the antenna. Before the work was done,
the factory stereo worked fine. Ever since the work though, the stereo hasn't worked
right. Eventually, it stopped working all together. I complained to the dealership but
they responded by telling me that the problem was with the receiver and they wouldn't take
responsibility for breaking it. Since the problem was with the receiver and not the car's
electrical system, it was not covered by the warranty. So I've been without a receiver
since then but recently got a stereo to replace the dead (or so I thought) factory stereo. I
bought the receiver from Crutchfield and got it all hooked up with the harness provided.
By the way, the stereo system on my Avalon has 6 speakers and these are powered by a built
-in amplifier and so use the pre-outs on my receiver. Anyway, I tried to turn on the new
receiver and nothing happened, same as the factory receiver. I checked the radio/cig fuse and
it tested good. Just to make sure, I checked the cig lighter and it was functioning. I
then checked to see if there was any voltage on the white wire of the car's wiring harness.
It should of read 12V since it was the constant 12V power lead. No power there. I then
tested the switched power lead w/ key in ignition but no power there either. So I figured
the factory receiver was probably good afterall and confirmed this by attaching clips to
the receiver's power and ground input pins to a 12V power source. Sure enough, it started right
up whereas it wouldn't power on in the dash. I nicked the white wire before the harness connector thinking that maybe the harness was bad but there was no voltage before the harness either. So now I'm thinking that maybe something was pulled loose when the dealership worked on the antenna. I tried following the wires from the harness and they go into what appears to be a junction box. I can only see the box and cannot reach it without removing the top dash (I guess). I don't know how to go about doing this as I see no obvious way to do this. There may be another way to the box but I don't see how... Not sure if this would even help but I don't know what else to do next. I would be grateful for any suggestions on what to try next. Thanks for the help.

Dude that is a mistake on the work they did on the antenna...I would go to the the place where you had the work done and talk to the manager or someone higher if the manager dont help. Obviously the jacked something up and they need to fix it seeing as how your radio works and It stopped AFTER they did the work... No sence is fixin someone elses slip up.

My guess is they either smashed a wire in between someting under the dash or they punctured it shorting it out ... I would really press to have them fix it. Hope you kept your reciept!

Okay, I have an update. Problem solved (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Turns out that the dealership had removed a fuse and never replaced it. The fuse was located within a fuse box under the hood. Originally, I had only checked the fuse in the kick box fuse panel, not knowing about the one under the hood (I discovered the other one from a wiring schematic I found online for a 2006 avalon). Apparently, both have to be good for the radio system to work. Anyway, thanks again for taking the time to look at my problem.
