Sorry for my ignorance but I'd like to know if my Toyota 2002 RAV4 4WD automatic engine can be replaced with a diesel engine?
Thanks in advance!

It would definitely not be possible to convert a gas engine into a diesel engine because the cylinder block and head would not be strong enough. A diesel engine needs a much higher compression ratio than a gas engine, which means the gas engine's cylinder block and cylinder head would probably explode under the higher pressure.

In south and central america most toyotas are diesel. You can get a Rav4 engine from a salvage yard there. Try your search in spanish. Sounds like a adventure.
