For those of you in the U.S. who are bemoaning the documentation fees, etc., tacked onto the MSRP, this should make you feel better. This is from a purchase agreement with a dealer in B.C., all figures in Canadian dollars = $0.65 U.S.

Air conditioning tax $100
Tire & battery tax $20
Provincial sales tax 7%
Federal sales tax 7%
Freight $775 (what do they do, take the car off the ship and put it onto a train to Toronto and back?)
PDI (general prep I believe) $195
Documentation $125
Filing fee (???) $185

All this adds almost 20% to the MSRP. The real kicker is that you even pay sales tax on the air and tire/battery taxes. Yes, in Canada even the taxes are taxed.

In fairness I have to add that some of the fees got reduced/eliminated after it was pointed out they didn't agree with the original quote. My previous message was not intended as a slight on the dealer, who has been very helpful and upfront all along.

Don't forget you get 100.00 rebate for fuel conservation rebate at least in Ontario. (Not sure if that is a Provincial or Federal Credit).

AC tax is 100.00 here too.
No tire/battery tax.
Provincial Tax is 8% OUCH 2630.24 thank you very much!
Fed tax 7%, 2301.46
Freight/PDI was 889.00
Admin/registration fees 290.00 which included 200.00 for the glass etching/registration.
License fee 10.00
6yr/160,000km Extended Care Plan 1699.00 plus tax but includes the first three lubes.

Out the door 37719.70.

Oh yes, didn't I see in one of the articles that there was 600.00 in rebate/credit? for B.C. residents due to the auto insurance?

>>Out the door 37719.70.

Thanks, you made me feel slightly better, though I'm not getting the extras you mentioned. Interesting that your freight/PDI is only marginally more than what I ended up being charged($775), given that Toronto is 5,000 km further from the docks. And it's gonna cost me another 40 bucks to get the car back to the Island. :-(
