I ordered my Prius on the Internet on 8/15/00. I was very concerned that there might be a long wait before the car would be here, but was assured that it wouldn't take long at all. Well, it was delivered to me here in Texas today (8/21/00), less than a week after I ordered it! Looks great, too! It is Blue Moon Pearl (a pearlized light purple).

(Well, it is a 1/58-scale model I ordered off of E*Bay, but it still looks great!)

p

>> But does it have cruise control?

That's hysterical !!!

I needed a good laugh. The waiting is starting to make me crazy. And all the speculation and conflicting info doesn't help. This is the week I'm suppose to, believe it or not, actually get my Prius. Then I'll finally be able to gather some real life data, which I'll post on my website and here of course.

JOHN
http://home.att.net/~john1701a/

BTW: My order was on 6/5 for a green one, and I live in Minnesota (winter should be interesting). So those couple of you on the coasts that have already got yours, thanks for sharing your experiences.

Tomica or Tomy makes a RHD Prius (matchbox/hot wheel size)We usually go to the toy store on our way to the airport from Toyota City. it only comes in one color, last year's amethysts (very light purple/gray) and the hood opens.
Hven't seen any over here yet. The launch team uses them for graft with other depts. that we need help from.....PM

Robert,

>> Where did you get match-box model - please let us know.

I got my match-box model from my brother who had a friend in the Phillipines mail in over.

In other words, I really lucked out. But I've had a blast showing it off. People ask me to describe the Prius, my response is to pull that "mini" version out of my pocket. (Of course, the steering-wheel is on the right side. But it does has cruise control!) The best though is the way I ordered my "real" version. I just walked into Toyota, held out "mini", and said I want one of these. That impressed the heck out of my salesperson.

JOHN
http://home.att.net/~john1701a/

John,
That funny, all toy Prius that we bought were all mono-spec without cruise and navigation....and in reference to last weeks debate on the plural of Prius......internal singularly or in multiples we use Prius......kind of like fish, sheep and kleenex.....PM

The TOMY models are trickling out on E*Bay. Right now, there are 2 out for bid (no, neither from me...although this would be a great forum to drum up some bids--perhaps I should cut a deal with the seller).

I might have the current distinction for paying the most scale dollars for their Prius at $1.95 million (well $10 for a 1/58 scale model would come to $10 x 58 x 58 x 58...).

Waiting is making us all a little stir crazy. I had thought for a moment to split my post into 2 parts...with the punch line in the second part. That would have been too cruel, though (and probably garnered more than a few flaming Moes).

As Product Manager for another product that has "support" groups on the 'net, I am very sympathetic with Priusman's delimma. By making himself available to us, he gives us the opportunity to pick his brains and get knowledgeable, detailed information we would otherwise not get. The other side of that coin is the abusive posts aimed in his direction...I have, unfortunately, had to opt for less exposure in directly supporting my own product line due to past negative experiences. Alas, I must lurk and nudge carefully when I can.

I am glad to see that the heat has mostly died down (or does someone want to talk about Cruise Control some more). That week PM took off made me worry that we had lost him.

p

Bob,

>> you said you ordered on 6/5. Did you mean 7/5?

Nope, I meant 6/5 (June 5th). I placed an order the old fashion way, by going directly to the dealer. They were more than happy to process the paperwork right away if I was willing to provide a $1000 deposit. So I did. (And it turns out that my order was the second from that dealer, the first was on 5/30.)

The bummer is that I don't have a PR#. And when I checked with the manager at the dealer today (8/21), the best update he could give me was "soon". He says 3 orders he placed before the online stuff began don't show on the standard delivery notices. Hopefully everything will work out just fine.

JOHN
http://home.att.net/~john1701a/

After I was assigned a PR#, the dealer informed me that I was #1 on the list now. I don't know what happened to the other orders, but I believe the dealer still has to enter in the non-internet orders and get a PR# assigned.

Alex Karahalios

Hi John,

I put down a 4k deposit with a dealer in March, but Toyota didn't know I existed until I did the online thing mid July and brought it to my dealer. Shortly after that I got my PR# with and a notice regarding 3-4 month wait.

You might want to press your dealer on this. Hopefully this is not the case for you, but it seems alot of dealers don't know what is required to place an order. Don.t mean to scare you. Good luck!:)

Bob

Good one! You should've inserted a page break before the last line, though :-)

Bob & Alex,

I *think* my order was placed correctly.

On 6/30, I contacted Prius-Support via email asking if I needed to do anything since I bypassed the online stuff. They said no, I should receive my Prius 60 to 90 days after the dealer accepted my deposit.

But the thing that made me feel fairly confident was the comment my saleperson made the week before that. While he was attending training with all the other salespeople from the Twin Cities area, his dealership was specially recognized because it had pre-sold more Prius than any other in the metro area. The people providing the training were already aware of the 2 orders the dealer had placed, mine and Dwight's.

90 days will be up in two weeks. I feel *fairly* confident that I'll get my Prius before that. If not, watch out! I'll stand my ground after having heard your stories. But for now, I'm giving them a benefit of doubt. (Thanks for the "good luck".)

JOHN
http://home.att.net/~john1701a/

After all the abuse we have been giving him, Priusman STILL shows a sense of humor!
Are sales figures THAT good? :-)

On a serious note - any way we Yahoo Prius groupers (no finny jokes...) can demo our appreciation of your and ee_of_ee's support to Toyota - other than buying a second Prius?

Bill Powell
