My freind has a 1986 hiace 2.2 lt gas and petrol he called me up cos it works fine on gas and not on petrol. Turns out a mecanic has failed to hook up the pipe from the air clearner to the carby. he took it to another mechanic for a tune they told him they couldent as his carby's ventury was damaged looks to me like some ones put a skrewdriver aganst it and hit it with a hammer. Wondering if any one knows what carby's are used on these cars i dont want to put something diffent on as it may effect the gas. Aparently there are 2 types a jap one and a aust one (dodgy mecanic's word on that). please email any info u have many thanks

The 2.2 petrol engine is the 4Y motor.

Have a look here: http://www.japparts.com.au/products/Carbies.html

They are advertising carburettors for the 4Y engine for $330.

Alternatively, if you don't want new, try around the wreckers. These motors are fairly old now and there
should be a heap of them wrecked with carbies for miles.

It is possible that there is a jap carb and an Aussie one. They produced different carb assemblies for different countries depending on what
emission control standards were required etc. The engines with the emission control crap all over them used a different carby to the standard one as it needed a whole heap more connections to it for things like EGR valves.
