I have a 99 Sienna and the CD player will not play. Last winter I started getting an Error 3 message when I turned the windshield wipers on (strange, i know). Eventually I starting getting the message whenever i hit even a small bump in the road. Finally it got to where the CD just clicks a couple times and then is ejected.
We tried the disconnecting the battery trick, but it didn't work. Any ideas?? I'd appreciate it! Donna H.

Sounds like the laser has died. Time to have it repaired (if it is worth it) or buy yourself a new car stereo.

The CD player in my '04 Sienna died last summer. I've been advised that the best option is to buy an IPod FM unit, and to bypass the CD player altogether as they are subject to weather and other issues. How many out there have had CD problems?

My CD died last summer. I have had the battery replaced since then, so I doubt the battery trick will work. I've been told the IPod is the best answer - always wondered how reliable a CD player is in a car - had cassettes for years that never broke down.

Hello Everyone
Audacious 1.5 can be set up for true auto play with proper track name, info etc., will have to install 2.x later and test.

While I normally use amarok (which also can be set up for true auto play from any drive), I have a fresh install of hardy, so I gave aud a quick try.

The only difference from amarok is aud. will only auto play from the default drive, the idea is basically the same.

The method for hardy is a bit more involved, in intrepid and I'd imagine jaunty a step or 2 could be removed.

If you set up the 'event' (inserting an audio cd) to call a script instead of a command or the default audacious.desktop then it will work perfectly.
In other words the default for audio cd's should be the script, not the player
