I have a 2001 Toyota Avalon XLS with a 6 cd changer JBL stock. Till yesterday everything worked fine untill....

I ejected a CD and then tried to load a different CD. As soon as i tried to load the cd, the unit gives me a error 3. I have 2 cd's stuck there. It keeps giving me the error 3 when i try to load a cd.
When i try to eject, nothing... the cd mechanism just keeps making a spinning noise.. and has two red lights....I dont kno what they are.

From searching... I have seen this is a common problem on cd changers.

Solutions that i have seen

1) Reset button on cd changer?... where is this
2) Unplugging the battery..wait 15 min and plug it back...how do you do this?
3) Unplug the audio fuse...any directions on this?

Can anyone help me how to solve this??

Thankyou for your assistance

Hi redace,
I got a jam in my 2001 avalon cd player. The dealer in Eugene Oregon told me I had to schedule an appointment, and they would have areplacement unit for me, which they would put in, and send my uint out for repair. This was going to cost $150. for this part of it, plus repair cost. The stereo shops in my small town told me to take it to toyota. If you find out anything, I would like to know. Thanks. jimoc804

Actually mine got fixed very easily. Dont let them take out the player.

Open the hood, disconnect the battery (one of the plugs) for 5 min, and try using the player again.. it should work

it is a computer inside the cd player and it just restarts the cd player.

Hopefully that works, otherwise you would have to get the replacement

I have a similar problem. My player just doesnt play anything anymore. I was not even able to eject or load any CDs. I brought it to a radio shop, and the guy was not able to fix it. He removed all the CD's amd suggested me to buy a new one. Do you guys have any suggestions for me? Can I get that kind of in-dash CD changer from the scrapyard?

Thanks for any suggestions

[b][i]my 6 disc cd changer in my 2001 avilon xls was acting up and wouldnt let me change disc or insert a new one. i was getting error 1, then 3. so i took the fuse out #35 position from the panel just above the hood release inside the car. (look towards the back of the manual) i gave it 4 minutes and pluged it back in. it had a slight spark but then i herd the cd changer working like it should.

I have same stereo (2001 jbl, 6 disc) and have had same problems. Resetting didn't work. player accepts and ejects cd's, but will not play them. All else works great.

I bought new Pioneer for wife @ christmas thinking my 1980's car stereo installation experience could handle a simple swap out. Duh. . . time marches on.

Problem: the stock radio has an amp (under passenger seat apparently?). Crutchfield told me they didn't have harnesses available and I would have to bypass the amp therefore losing the subwoofer (only the most important part sound system for 30 something wife).

Now what? Anyone had luck switching units? finding wiring harness. . .

redace,

this also happen to me.

can put cd inside, however can not play. it eject it afterward.

I tried to put those CD cleaner, it would detect a bit for a sec, then gone again.

Another thing i noticed, car needs to be warm or hot, CD player can play for a while.

If cold, doesnt play. I am not sure what is going on either

I tried this and it worked. Thanks for the advice :-)

But after 2-3 days I left on a road trip and the CD player stopped working again. Same problem "Error 1".
But when I switch off the CD player -> turn off the engine -> turn on the engine -> switch on the CD player it would work.
And when ever it stopped working again I followed the above procedure.

But after a week it stopped working and the above procedure won't work.

1) Is there any other solution for this?
2) If there is no other solution, I thought it might be easier to remove the fuse and plug it back, rather than disconnecting the battery. Can someone pls provide me some advice as to which fuse should I remove?

Thanks in advance
