I have a 1989 Toyota Pickup with 330,000 miles on it. The truck runs fine but now I am having a charging issue. The battery is tested and good and the alternator is tested and good also. When I put a meter on the batter before starting I get 12+ volts. When I start the car I get 11+ volts. The alternator is not charging. Any suggestions?

Go to AutoZone they can check out your system for free. I'm guessing that your alternator or voltage regulator is bad.

If you have tested both, one of them has to be a bad test. Have you had the battery tested under load? The Altenator should be putting out anywhere from 13 to 14 volts. Try checking voltage while truck is running.
I have a request from you if you could help me. I am looking for a number on the coil ignitor assy. for a 89 P/U. Could you check yours?

Don't forget to check the wire and battery connection for corrosion. Simple stuff gets over looked. But yes sounds like a bad alternator. Alot of the tests they run at the auto parts stores can be wrong. Another funny little thing about the toyota charging system is that the charge light in gauge cluster actually provides resistance and that resistance turns the voltage regulator on. If that bulb is bad that could be your issue. But if your charge light and brake light are both on while the truck is running then yes your alternator is bad.
