Hello Everyone,

I just registered. I have found very good information on this forum. We have a 2003 Toyota RAV4 with 82k miles on it. We have done regular maintenance on it. It has be a great car, like all the other toyotas I have owned.

The other night we were out of town and I fill up the tank at an unfimiliar corner gas station. Just minutes after that the check engine light came on. I took it to my mechanic, he told me it was an oxygen sensor. He said it might just be bad gas. Has anyone experienced this problam? Thanks in advance.

Hawre

I would say recheck to make sure the gas cap is on correctly, sometimes a loose or incorrectly screwed on gas cap can trigger a CEL. Did your mechanic tell you what the code(s) is/are?

Gas cap is a good thing to check. It might also be bad gas. As long as it's running OK, burn a few tanks of known good fuel and see if the light goes out. If it does not, reset the light and see if it comes back on. If it comes back on, then look at replacing the OS sensor. They generally only last about 100k anyway. And go OEM. The after market ones don't seem to last as long and you will only be saving a few bucks.

Mechanic didn't say what the codes where. He said the same thing about waiting for a couple of fill ups before we touch anything. Thanks guys.

Hey Hawre, I am experiencing the same problem with the check engine light. Did the subsequent fill-ups solve your problem?
Thanks,

WB
