clutches...it is hydraulic, the pedal works the clutch master cylinder which in turn acts on the slave cylinder which works the fork to engage or disengage the pressure plate by moving the throw-out bearing fore and aft on the transmission shaft.
High revs and no acceleration sounds like a worn clutch. Not an awful job to replace the clutch. Once the transmission is seperated from the engine the pressure plate and disk unbolt from the fly wheel and the bearing uncouples from the fork and slides off the transmisson shaft. Inspect the fly wheel for hot spots and general surface condition resurface or replace if questionable.
Slipping clutches can also occure due to leaky rear main oil seal. If the oil seal is leaking any replacement clutch won't last long.
good luck
