Hi. I have a Toyota caldina 2.0L 1995, full time 4WD, manual.
When I depress the clutch pedal, then release it quite slowly, as I would when I do a relatively slow start, the pedal sticks down roughly half way. It doesn't matter which gear it is in, or if it is in neutral, or if the motor is off - the pedal sticks, but only if let out slowly - say over 1.5 to 2 seconds.
It is a hydraulic clutch and the fluid reservoir is full.
When stuck in the halfway down position, the car behaves as if the clutch was all the way out - ie if the clutch is stuck and then depressed, it does not fully disengage.
Also if the clutch is stuck halfway down and then repeatedly pressed, it gradually comes less and less back, and after twenty or so pushes does not come back out at all - stuck to the floor.
With all of the above situations though, I can still put my foot or hand underneath the clutch and pull it back out, and it will function normally as long as it is not let out slowly.
We recently went on a 1000km road trip, which involved driving up a steep road with snow chains to a skifield, and throughout the whole trip the clutch didn't slip once.
Any help as to what the cause of this is would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Basti
