I have a 2004 Tacoma with approx. 56,000 miles. For the past couple days, when I start the truck and go to put it in gear, I've noticed that the clutch pedal is only about half the normal distance from the floor. I can put the truck in gear, but it is harder than normal because of the shorter distance between the clutch and the floor. Each time this has happened, I give the the clutch a tug and it pops back to the normal height and seems to work and feel normal. After that, the clutch gives no further trouble while driving. I've noticed this problem when I go to start the vehicle. Any ideas about what may be the problem? Thanks for your help!

The clutch is hydraulic and might be low on fluid. It takes normal DOT 3 brake fluid. At least mine does, check the cap to see what yours takes.

If it's gotten very low, it might have air in it. It bleeds the same way as brakes. Worse case, the seals are gone in the master or slave cylinder. It's easy to replace them. Don't go with the rebuild kit as I have not had them last. Get the full replacement cylinder.

I'm not sure where the clutch fluid reservoir is located. I searched around carefully and all I could find was a small reservoir that is located on the drivers side at the edge of the hood nearest the windshield. Shining a
flashlight on that reservoir, it appears to be full - dark looking fluid up to the top. Is that where the clutch fluid is located? Thanks for your help!

I am currently having this same exact problem with my truck. I started a thread at : http://www.toyotafans.net/index.php?showto...st=0#entry49491

My Toyota dealer looked at my truck and they checked my fluid levels and they bled the lines to the clutch cylinders. They told me they didn't see anything wrong but the problem remains. The problem goes away completely when the truck is warm.

I didn't try tugging on the pedal like the poster of this thread suggests. I'll try it and post my results later.

THANK YOU SilverSalmon. Your suggestion of tugging on the clutch pedal fixed my problem. THANK YOU!
