I have a 90 cressida that starts and runs fine until 2miles out and then the check engine light comes on, and I have to increase the rpms by downshifting just to barely make it back home. Code 14 (coil, igniter) keeps coming up after clearing and trying to drive again. I found the copper spade on the end of the wire that inserts into the coil tower completely powdered into copper oxide. I then cleaned the coil tower and installed a new coil-to-cap wire, expecting no more problems. The same symptoms still happen, and the same code comes back. Has anyone ever heard of a bad coil wire causing damage to the coil or igniter? What would let the engine run for 2miles and then fail? Heat? Default-to-computer control? This car did once have wires that were so bad that the coil was leaking to the body. New wires solved the problem then. Car has new plugs, cap and rotor also.

That would be around 27 to the gallon you doing short runs. i get the same on short journeys but cruising down the motorway at under 60 i can go as high as 44 mpg I have also tried using engine additives but mpg is about the same John

AFAICR the 4ws uses the same feed as the tems and abs, so an abs sensor should do. No doubt a Toyota dealer will perform the "it's an import" dance and ignore the one they have on the shelf and order one direct from japan at twice the price. I could be wrong, it's happening a lot recently as I get older :(

IIRC the speed sensor is the same as the ABS sensor.

I had get a Japanese car importer to source my from Japan.
