whats up toyota fans,

my mom drives a 2000 camry and the check engine light just came on, i'm going to try to tackle the problem myself but i need some help, and i've tryed to search this but haven't gotten far with that, well anyway....

i had it scanned and the codes p0171 and p1135 were pulled.

so now that i've pulled the codes, what do they mean? what should be replaced?

Thanks

Here's a complete list of OBDII codes:

http://www.yotatech.com/~corey/tech/dr_z_obd/dr_z.htm

p0171: System too Lean (Bank 1)

Usually means a dirty mass airflow sensor or bad oxygen sensor.

p1135: O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1)

See above. Not sure if you have an 02 sensor before or after the cayalytic converter. If you do, then most likely the one between the engine and the cat may be bad.

I would have a trusted mechanic take a look at both 02 sensors just to be sure.

Someone here at work complained about the CEL light coming on.
Scanning shows a P1135 code (AF sensor/oxygen sensor, bank 1 sensor 1).

Is this truly an AF sensor or just an Oxygen sensor or does that depend on whether this is a CA car? The manual really isn't very clear and the parts houses all refer to them as "Oxygen sensors".
How can one tell whether this Camry complies to California Emission standards? Is it embedded in the VIN somehow? I understand they sold CA emission standard cars in the North East.

Also, what sensor is generally recommended (OE or aftermarket)?
The parts houses refer to "front" or "back" oxygen sensors. I take it this is the 'front' sensor?

TIA
