Hi, they said say Hi so here I am saying Hi. I have an 04 Vibe with 67K. I like the car better than when I bought it but It has given me a new problem. I'm just going to paste in what I wrote to a friend then edit it a bit. I know I should post it elsewhere but this may save a redundant post and, whew, I'm desparate for an answer. The Toyota dealer mech must have been illiterate or he wanted me to send a few hundred for an answer. Here goes...and thanks. ____ My Pontiac Vibe, (Toyota Matrix in disguise) has had a complete signal light failure on the left side. The Hazards don't work on that side either. Nothing lights up. Traditionally if a bulb is out the good one and the dash one stay lit solid. In my case...nothing. I repalced both bulbs in case the toyota is different but nothing. The flasher runs both the signals and the hazards but no one can definatively tell me whether or not a toyota flasher can fail on one side only. + I haven't been able to get a replacement flasher yet. The part store had a flasher relay which didn't look at all like the flasher in my car.
One guy on a forum said he'd heard of one side going out only. Doesn't sound right to me. I think a flasher either works or it doesn't. But the new Japanese stuff is different. For example, all my past experience is that there are two flashers, one for signals and one for hazards. This car has only one. People asked about the fuse. There is only one fuse that is for signal and Hazard. If that was out the right side wouldn't work either.
The sad thing is that it is probably a failure in the steering column. That will go at least three hundred! Darn car is only 3.5 years old. I think the flasher will go about $12 (relay?) so I hate to spend it when it could be in the column. Just tossing money in the gutter then. _____
