**** UPDATED - NEW pics (scroll down) ****

Hey again folks

I bought my pickup several months ago and it's still leaking coolant. It's a 22RE, 5 speed, 4cyl, 2wd, 1991

I've replaced the radiator cap and a bad hose.

It's not running hot yet. I really need to fix this. I keep having to fill the reservoir up every few days. There are several pets around my house that could be attracted to the spillage on the ground and accidentally get poisoned.

It was just leaking the day after I used the truck or the night of...But now it leaks even when I haven't used the truck for a few days.

Since I degreased parts of the engine, I've been able to locate exactly where it's leaking onto the lower part of the engine behind the 2 belts. I circled it in red and labelled it in the 1st picture (link below)

Any help or advice would be excellent! I've paid a few mechanics to "fix" it, but it just keeps leaking.

Here are the pictures:

How many miles on your rig? Has the water pump been replaced before?

It's got 280,000 + miles.
Supposedly the engine was rebuilt within the past 30,000 miles or so.
I'm not sure exactly all that was replaced, but I'll check the papers when I can find them.

I can't find the the papers for the truck, but I doubt the water pump has been replaced. Could that be the problem?

Is there any chance it could be the radiator? I wouldn't think so since the leak is kind of nowhere near it...but I don't know anything about engines.

thanks

From that first pic, it looks like the water pump, but a pic closer up would be best. It couldn' hurt to have it changed our unless you're short on money.

After taking more pictures, it does look like it's coming from the water pump area. I wonder if a new one would fix it?

I also noticed what appears to be a wire that is cut - coming from the back top part of the engine (close to the windshield area. I'm including a pic of it. Can anyone tell me if it's anything to be alarmed of?

There's also a picture of a missing bolt - it's kind of above the and to the left of the water pump (when looking at the back of it)

Any advice would be great. Thanks!

The cut wire looks to be an EGR temperature sensor, or the like. The water pump is designed to leak from the "weep hole" when the seal wears out. From underneath the engine, you may have better access to the bottom of the water pump. If you can see fresh coolant coming directly from the water pump, replacing the pump should fix the leak. Your missing bolt looks to be what fastens the power steering pump to it's bracket, I wouldn't know for sure as I do not have power steering.
