Hello All,

I am a new member to Toyota Fans. I have a 1996 Corolla with 210,000 miles and have recently run into some problems. I live in Wisconsin and we have had a few bad snow storms, one yesterday April 11th. My Corolla drives great for about 20 miles and then just dies. This has happened twice both times when I was driving through heavy snow. When the car dried out it works great.

Any suggestions to the problem.

Thanks

what usually happens is that the battery is low needs to be replaced, you have bad spark plugs, ignition modulator, fuel filter, may need to replace alternator(belts). Have you scheduled full maintenance with you local dealer??

Thanks for the response. I just replaced my spark plugs and fuel filter. I don't think it would be my alternator belt, it hasn't been slipping and no check engine lights go on before the car dies.

A few friends at work suggest that my distributor and rotor may have some corrosion. Or the other idea is a short to my fuel pump.

Any more ideas?

Yes, I have for got about the distributor cap and rotor. Check those, and that should solve your problem, those are the major problems while cars die in the extreme weather. I just got my car serviced about a month ago, I live in Maryland(Between WV/PA state line) right near the mountains and its get pretty cold and my battery was about to go due to the cold weather, especially from those cold start ups. So had to replace that. But, I am a Toyota Technician, hopefully that should help you out. If you have any other questions please feel free to speak I am glad to help.

I had the same problem on an SUV ...not a Toyota ...and it was, indeed, the distributor cap and rotor.
Batteries always are the first place I look but in that case it was something else. Snow sucks! LOL.
