As one of the folks who spent the $700+ dollars to install cruise control with Toyota parts, I can only say thank goodness Toyota is considering a kit for that purpose. Cruise control is a sterling addition to this sterling car. Thanks, Priusman for responding to a clearly stated need regarding cruise control. I'm still thoroughly enjoying this car after 7900 miles, and encouraging others to buy one. Jim

Please tell me how to order a cruise control kit and have it installed. I live on an Interstate and have to go 50+ miles on it to get to the 'big city'. The dealer her is very uninformed because they have only sold and deliverd 2 Prius for the state!

As I posted about a week ago, the project to market a dealer installed kit has been formalized. I cannot offer any concrete timing (if it makes it at all)or pricing as there are numerous tasks and approvals necessary to make it a reality - packaging, instructions, certification/liability issues, testing, supplier negotiations, etc. On earlier postings both here and on egroups owners have posted available part numbers etc for a piece by piece install. the big issue in terms of parts costs is getting the factory/supplier to separate the steering shaft cover from the steering assembly (the shaft cover -between the steering wheel and where it enters the dash- has predrilled hole for the cruise stalk)Otherwise you need to buy the $500 assembly to get the right cover). As the prius purchase request website states current requests are being filled with April production - meaning there's only 3 months of production left before the '02s - making it tough to turn everything on (you already noted the difficulty in communicating and training all the dealer personnel) - At this time there are no plans for a navigation kit due to wiring harness issues (or lack of). when offered the factory option is likely to be in excess of of $2,000MSRP. So all I can offer is to be patient on the cruise issue. PM

Priusman you said:<br>"... the big issue in terms of parts costs is getting the factory/supplier to separate the steering shaft cover from the steering assembly..." <br><br>How about just getting these parts split and forget the kit, then those of us who want cruise can do it for about $200 and we'll assume the liability.<br><br>- - Mike Kaiser<br>[Traded my Porshce for a Prius]

Priusman:<br><br>Once again, thank you for the information on the cruise control. I just returned from a long drive and was wishing for cc the whole last half of the trip. Judging from the numerous posts on the subject, I suspect a LOT of current Prius owners are going to want it, so to accommodate demand in an orderly fashion and gauge actual demand, maybe Toyota could set up some kind of ordering system similar to the one for ordering the car? I'll sign up whenever and how ever Toyota wants to take my order. Thanks - Tom

Priusman, if I understand the timing portion of your latest post correctly where you mentioned that there was three months of 2001MY production left (Feb thru April), then those of us placing orders now stand a good chance of receiving the 2002MY Prius since the lead time is 4-5 months to delivery?<br><br>Thx!
