If this is a redundent message, sorry! The first did not appear to go thru.

Just wanted to make sure everyone was aware that we are now shipping Coastal cruise control kits. Takes about half an hour to install-the only tools you need are a pair of needlenose pliers. No cutting or drilling and its hidden from sight. It is completely reversible should you want to take it with you when you buy your newest Prius! :)
Take a look at www.coastalEtech.com. Tells you about the process, etc... I own a Prius myself and thats why I decided a cruise control was a necessity. And this one is Remote controlled!
The Coastal Remote Controlled cruise has been in my car for over 7,000 miles and is working great!
Dave
Coastal Electronic Technologies
(352)344-8680

I took a look. It looks and sounds good EXCEPT: without involving the brake switch, how is the control going to disengage when the brakes are applied?? Allen

Nice web site / idea.
From reading the site, it seems that my 2001 Prius *has* cruise control capability, but just no interface to it - and that's what this remote/receiver really is? All you are doing is telling the computer to hold speed, so the only thing you need to do is hook up the receiver to a port on the computer (that's how you get the "cruise" light to come on when you push the button - it's already there, you just cannot use it). Am I totally off base on this? It sounds easy enough, and I'm certainly willing to explore this product.

Why have two remotes? I'm sure my wife would be happy to steal one and pull up next to me in her car and set my cruise as a joke. :-)

The cruise control receiver senses the brake input and in turn outputs the correct voltage to the computer, therefore brake modifications are unnecessary. If you have any questions give me a call.
Dave @CoastalEtech

Yes, the computer is preprogrammed for cruise and thru the receiver we interface it. Also, brake inputs are sensed thru the receiver and input to the computer so cruise will disengage when brake is pressed.
The second remote is just in case you need it :)
Call me if you have any questions.
Dave @CoastalEtech

I read Dave's at http://www.coastalEtech.com posting about his Remote Control Cruise Control kit. Since I really, really want Cruise Control for my Prius, I called him. Dave seemed very nice on the phone. He even gave me a personal contact number for me to call just in case I have any problems.

I ordered the Cruise Control kit from him today, using my credit card. Dave called me back later this afternoon to tell me that he had already shipped it. (He is in Florida and I am in Orange County, California. After I receive it, probably late next week, I'll post my experience.)

But, for now, my first impression is a very positive one...and based on that, if you want Cruise, this sounds like the best way to get it. (My fingers are crossed that it truly is as easy to install as it sounds.)

Good luck to all!

Michael

Can you give us a hint as to the nature of the future products that will take advantage of some of the other "hidden" features of the Prius? And would these other products also use wireless technology to activate/control features? With the announced Toyota cruise control kit, I think it's a toss up between the official unit and your wireless kit. However, if your future products also use wireless and a single remote unit will be available to control all these features, including cruise, then the advantage would go to your implementation. In other words, if the cruise control will be integrated with your future products and these products in totality are compelling enough, I can hold off getting any cruise control until your full suite of features is implemented.
