David,
The cruise control option was installed today. I left the car there in the morning and picked it up at noon. It cost $220 parts, $127 labor. And I love it. Now I can relax my foot on the freeway! The lever is exactly like the one on our Sienna. It works fine.

There is only one nervous fear I have. The steering wheel seems like it was re-installed rotated a tad from where it had been. It is so close, not knowing the "sprocket" dimensions, it is like the guy lined it up one notch off. But, at the same time, it is so close that I might be dreaming. It seems like I will probably ignore it.

When cars were simpler and I was younger, I would have just pulled it myself and reseated it. Ah well.

I'm sure you will enjoy your Prius as much as we have ours. 5,000 miles @ 43 mpg in these hills is pretty good, I think. I'm still getting questions from strangers about the car. Lots of folks seems to be interested. Just watch out for the radio antenna in the parking garages! It hits the ceiling in some of them!!

Jim

Jim,
Just to get things straight, what is the part # of the Cruise Kit that you ordered? I want to make sure that my dealer gets the proper one.

<Just watch out for the radio antenna in the parking garages! It hits the ceiling in some of them!!>

I had the same problem until I realized that the antenna can be raised or lowered (i.e., pushed down flat against the roof of the car) so as to be flat enough that it no longer hits the low ceilings of the parking garages. It took me a while to figure that one out, and you may already know it. The antenna can also be screwed off completely from the base and removed so going through car washes doesn't damage it. Just a couple of Prius details which make life easier. There are many others, as posted here. Good luck!

Part # 08501-47801

I drove it 200 freeway miles today, all is fine. I love having cruise control again. Now I have a real car again!

One thing I forgot before -- the settings on my radio were zapped during the install. If you care about your station settings, write them down before you take the car in to have the CC installed.

Wow. Hey thanks, I did not know the antenna could be tilted down. I had heard it could be removed, but have never actually gone up there and tried it yet. I will lower the darn thing right away. There are some low trees that will be happier too!

Thanks.

>the settings on my radio were zapped during the install.

Grrrrrr.

The service manuals _and_ the CC installation instructions both say for the service tech to write down these settings and to put them back before delivering the car to the customer.

This is a small but thoughtful touch on the part of Toyota. It's too bad when the factory techs cut corners like this.

Maybe we need to gently remind the service writers to note this on the work order when we bring our cars in.

--gc

P.S. Enjoy your cruise! We plan to get ours soon.
