The engine in my 2001 Corolla has been showing a Random Misfire code and a Cylinder 2 Misfire code for over a month now. (I believe it started after my wife drove the car through a flooded road during an Arizona monsoon.) The engine seems to be running smoothly, but after the codes are reset, it will give me a Random Misfire code and then the Cylinder 2 Misfire code after a while. (That's what it did in the beginning, anyway. Most recently, it's been showing a the Cylinder 2 problem with the Random as the pending code.)

I've replaced the spark plugs, swapped injectors and coils to see if the problem would migrate along with the swapped part, and a mechanic's given it a carbon cleaning. The mechanic has also told me the timing is correct and that the compression is fine. He finally told me it is the mass air flow sensor, which I changed. Unfortunately, the code came back the same way it has for weeks and weeks.

So, I'm pretty much at wits end. What else could be causing this code? I would appreciate any help I can get on this one.
-Mike

well i am not sure if this could be the case for you but in my car I drove it through a big puddle and killed it . I couldnt start if for ever and i changed spark plugs everything.. Come to find out there was water in my distribtor cap. Like i said i dont know if yours is like that but sounds like there might be moisture affecting the fire sequence some wheres. i would follow your cooil wires to the distrobution point and check that, maybe use a little WD-40 on connections to displace the water.
