Hi folks, I am getting my turbo repaired and upgraded to 400HP in my 91 Supra. Does anyone know any disadvantage to that, any problem that I might run into later in the future...? If not, is there anything else that I need to watch out for...?
Thanks

I am first of all assuming you mean 400HP RWHP correct? If you are NOT referring to RWHP, then I am very surprised that your vehicle's rear end axle's are still intact.

Having just the turbo repaired, in my mind, will not get you up to the 400 RWHP you are looking for. I am assuming that you have retorqued your head bolts to 72 ft/lbs, placed probably a 2-3 MM MHG, replaced your air intake with the Lexus AFM, the fuel injectors would have to be replaced with 720 cc's?? I forgot the size but hella lot larger than what you have now....probably a good idea to change out your brake lines to steel-braided... maybe also consider buying new head bolts when retorqued, you need the downpipe, the exhaust, probably cat-back system.....a new intercooler...

I mean have you done ANY of these? You need to bypass the FCD which is at 11.7 PSI I believe? Someone can correct me if I am wrong here....so you need an electronic boost controller, I mean to get to 400 RWHP, I am assuming this would be a STAGE 7-8 modification??? [again, someone correct me, I forget]....

If mean if you have the cat-back, exhaust, downpipe... with a manual boost controller and air intake, you are looking at 11 PSI pretty easy...I am not sure but I believe 400 RWHP would be pushing above 15 PSI...pretty easily...

I would also assume you would have to get sway bars, adjust the TEMS suspension, buy wider and larger tires....etc...

I mean if you haven't done ANY of this, first of all, there ain't no way in hell that you are going to get 400 RWHP....but even if you have done some of this, I believe I have listed 95% of what you would HAVE TO EVENTUALLY DO....probably more immediate than later.......I mean 400 RWHP is incredible...I rode in one that was 400 RWHP and it would snap your neck back, but this person put over $15,000 worth of modifications to get it to that point....

a simple turbo upgrade won't do, UNLESS you are referring to going to the twin-turbo...IF that is the case, I have no clue what you would have to do, I am just familiar with taking the stock turbo and ramming it up along with the other mods, otherwise you would have to ask someone else.....

I mean why WASTE the money in upgrading the turbo?? Here is some VERY SIMPLE ways to get BOOST!

1) shimmy the wastegate, probably the cheapest way to get your boost up.

2) air intake, and air filter

3) cat-back and 3 inch or 2 1/2 inch downpipe

4) manual boost controller

VOILA - running about 11-12 PSI...anything about 12 you are hitting the fuel cut problem...

TO run ABOVE 12, you are looking at dropping some SERIOUS SERIOUS money, I would say about $5000 if you could do it yourself, more if you have to pay someone....I mean is it worth it?

I am running about 11 PSI, I did intake, downpipe, cat-back, electronic boost controller, and I done some simple intercooler mods to it,

like BOV replaced, head bolts bought from ARM and retorqued...I don't have a MHG, I think theyare a waste, b/c if you retorque the head bolts, and put a new HG on it, I think that pretty much eliminates the problems, the new toyota HG's are built better than the ones that came stock w/the car....

you can increase the intercooler by either 1) running a tube straight to the front grill; which helps alot suprisingly for only costing about $20; 2) buy a new one [I wish I had your money]; 3) venting your hood [again, wish I had your money]....

so I hope these suggestions help..if you need more help directly email me at: james.derry@....

I think you need to be careful if you haven't started these mods, they get MIG
