I just reserved my Prius from my Atlanta Toyota dealer. They made me put up a $1,000 no refundable deposit. It looks like everyone else only had to put up a $500 deposit. Was I ripped off? The dealer told me that Toyota was setting the rules and if I wanted a Prius they had no choice but to charge me the $1,000 up front.

Allen

My dealer asked for $500. She said something like "we'll need a deposit; can you leave $500?" My impression was this wasn't a big deal and she would've accepted less.

It's OK for the dealer to ask for a large deposit, but it's not OK for them to lie to you and blame it on "Toyota setting the rules". I'd stay away from this dealer if possible.

Allen, I'm not surprised! I've tried to buy Toyotas in Atlanta for a long time and they have always added "extra costs" the the price of the vehicle that drove me to other models. I was about to consider the Prius via the internet, but it looks like Atlanta Toyota dealers are still up to their add-ons as usual.
