I have a 2004 4Runner Limited with 4.7 V8 and regularly get a "thud" when releasing the brake to accelerate from a stop.
I believe it to be drive train "binding" or rear differential torque roll. Problem worse when A/C fast idle is engaged.
It is bothersome enough to cause me not to buy another 4Runner.
Anyone have and suggestions?
Signed. Getting Thumped! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/gitara.gif)

I have written about this same problem in this forum before. I have a 2004 4runner v8 too and this is the most annoying problem. Have had it to the dealer many many times and they always grease the part but it never does any good. Why wouldn't they just recall them and fix the problem? I agree although we do like the vehicle will never buy another Toyota, between this problem and the tire sensor/slow leaks I will buy either Nissan or Honda. Not only do the Toyotas have these problems the dealers cannot fix them when you point them out!

You know it's ashame there isn't more interest in this subject. If all the people who had this problem got together we could probably get Toyota to actually fix it!
