Well guy's, I just bought my 09 XRS 3 months ago and it has had a drivetrain vibration in the drivetrain for the past 3k ot of 5k that I have put on the car. I took the car into the dealership and they checked the tires, retorqued the engine and transmission mounts, plus also hooked a scanner up to see if the car had any hidden codes. All these so-called test did not find anything.

I got really annoyed at the car and this week I went into the dealership again and traded for a new 09 Camry SE with the same 2.4L engine and 5 Speed Automatic Transmission in it and to my surprise this new Camry does not have this issue.

So, in closing if anybody has a similar problem as mine, good luck on someone at your dealership trying to find and solve the problem, as I do not think they will , unless something breaks and then they will fix it. BTW, they did not find and TSB's (Technical Service Bulletins) on these XRS's for this problem.

Also, if anybody does have this problem, like the one I had, please post your results here on this post. Thanks.

I have noticed a slight vibration in my 09 1.8L automatic. Mine has what I would describe as a rumbling sound and a vibration that I feel in the seat of my pants. It seems to be worst at about 55 MPH, but it comes and goes.

I can't quite get a handle on what it is.

Well, mine is a Harmonic Distortion at high 30 mph upwards to 80 + mph. It is intermittent and feels like it is a drivetrain axles or internal transmission problem with these XRS Automatic's. Again I put 5900 miles on mine in just 3 months time. I just could not deal with making payments on something I was not going to be happy with for the long term, never mind the short term. Anyway this new Camry SE is allot better riding car and drives like a dream. Hope this helps.

I'm sorry to hear that you had this problem. So far mine is smooth as silk at all speeds and RPMs. Like I said in one of my other posts the only design flaws I see with this car are:

1) The door arm rests are way too low to be useful. I drove an '09 Camry and they are perfect.
2) The automatic downshifts too easily from 5th (it may just be unlocking the torque converter, I can't tell). This hurts gas mileage.
3) The VSC is the same as the other Corollas and does not take into account the wider stickier 17" tires. It should be unique to the XRS.
4) The cruise control causes the car to jerk after going over a rise. When it starts the downhill side I see the tach drop and feel the car shake.

All in all I am quite pleased and plan to own this car for many years to come. It seems to be extremely reliable (admittedly I still only have about 6K miles on it). It looks cool and if I turn the VSC off in advance it handles admirably. I may even take it to Laguna Seca one of these days (the Mustang is too LOUD for Laguna).

Best of luck to you all,

Perry
