Cutlester is EXACTLY right. With the e-shift, you have more control of when shifting takes place. It seems to me like 3rd gear on the GS400 shifts a little early. When you use e-shift though, you can let the RPM's run a little higher and get a little better performance.

To elaborate of his point about 0-60 times, LEXUS tested the GS400 (when they first introduced it) and it ran 0-60 in 6 flat. When MOTOR TREND got behind the wheel, they got it to do it in 5.7 sec. (If you read in the brochure, it has a caption that says results from Motor Trend magazine) For the new GS430, LEXUS tested it and it ran 0-60 in 5.7 seconds. Now I'm not sure if MOTOR TREND has tested it and if so, I don't know what they ran. But that's why the 0-60 times are the same for the two cars.

CUTLESTER, how did you beat those GS430's? Any e-shift pointers you can give me? Any little ideas you discovered that helped in performance? Any and all your advice would be greatly appreciated!! THANKS

--Justin--
Platinum 2G GS4

The #1 thing for ALL GS400 drivers to do to get that the most explosive takeoff is to DISCONNECT YOUR BATTERY, and WAIT for about 10 minutes, then put it back!!!! WHY????? You may notice that your GS doesn't take off as much as it did when you first purchased it. Well, the folks at LEXUS wanted the GS to be smart, so they allow the CPU in the car to "learn" you driving habits, and "optimize" the fuel intake, etc, so that you can get the best gas mileage, and the CPU can anticipate shifting by your driving. The CPU takes about 1200 miles to learn your driving habits. Disconnecting the battery, erases that memory. You will lose your radio settings, and maybe your seat adjustments. All of your other settings done by the dealer (such as CPU adjustments like automatic headlight sensor, clock, etc) stay the same. But thats it. I can make my back tires squeal ever time! You may notice that you can't do it as much as you could before.

BEATING THE GS430
The GS430 has basically was tuned to increase the torque over the GS400. Whenever I am going to blast past someone. I downshift manually to the 2 setting. (You CAN NOT hurt the engine. It will NOT downshift if the RPMs are too high). Turn OFF the VSC. And take off!!! That's it. You win EVERY time. That is until that 1200 mile interval happens! But you know what to do now!

Or if you have the cash. You can spend $1200, and get the SWIFT-RACING Torque convertor for your GS400. That takes off about .5 secs off of your 0-60 times. Basically you will BLOW almost all the stock cars out there from the takeoff (It eliminates that hesitation when you hit the gas). Drawbacks are: you will have to be careful driving in the snow, or rain!

Also check out WWW.CLUBLEXUS.COM for information.

Lee
~Happy Hunting
