I noticed that I wouldn't be able to downshift from third gear to second using E-shift the first five minutes when I start the engin from cold. I brought my '98 GS400 to dealership and they said it was normal. Is that true?? I need some advise. Thanks.

Yep! It's true. I was worried at first when it happened to me too.

I had the same thing happen to me. I was told by an Lexus Tech guy, that the E-Shift computer will not shift within the first 3 minutes until the engine is sufficently warmed up, and lubed with the engine oil. That protects the engine from downshifting on cold, unlubed gears. It is just a saftey feature. Thats why you can't really hurt the engine using the E-shift. It won't let you downshift at too high a rev band, or when it isn't ready. So don't worry about it.

Lee
