Hello from Florida,
I own a Corolla S 2003 and has been running very good until yesterday morning when I started it and notice the RPM, normally reading of 800-900, went up to 1300 and later on the engine light also came on.
I'm hoping someone will give me some advise before I take it to the dealer.
Thanks in advance
Jose Macia

Find an AutoZone and have them pull the code for you and post it here, then we can help you out better. Without knowing the code, it's just a guessing game.

hi,
I finally got the car to the shop and make the diagnostic test.
They are telling me it's the idle contol unit and the cost for replacing it will be around the $400.00

Suggestions will be appreciated.

Is this something I can do myself ? or should I defitively take it to the dealer?

Thank you
Jose

I would find a local mechanic and get an estimate on how much that would cost.

Definitely take it to 2 or 3 mechanics just so that you know that you aren't going to get ripped off. That is a good way to make sure that all the prices are right around the same.

Thank you everyone for the input.

The results are in between $300.00 and $400.00 for the part and installation done at any repair shop.
I checked the price for the piece with Autozone and it costs $220.00 I guess it's Ok to take it to the shop instead of doing it myself, that way there will be some kind of a warranty.

Thanks again.
Josemacia.
