Hello people, Ime bored of my 2LT engine... It realy does not have enough poke.
Can anyone suggest a big powerfull turbo deisel lump i can chuck in thier instead?
Ive heard rumours of a conversion thats been done to landrovers involving a five litre turbo deisel nissan
forklift engine????
I would like to fit the straight six four point two but its to long...
Petrol engine is a no no ...
V8 deisel would be nice but far too heavy i think...
Any ideas anyone?? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/gunsmilie.gif)

1 KZT ! 3 Litre TD with 30% more power.

Or for a few thousand less you could add a bigger exhaust, sports muffler, advance the timing a bit, and maybe put on an intercooler ( for sure do 1 and 3 if you are going to do 2). That should give you a good boost for way less effort. You don't want to go more than 30% from what I hear - the tranny won't handle it. Let us know what you do!

I can understand your frustration with the 2L-T. It's a good engine, but way underpowered for Hiace vans and the Hilux Surfs that it comes factory fitted in.

The Nissan LD28 is a common replacement or repower for many vehicles, but I seriously question the value of doing such transplants these days.
Vehicles are cheaper now than they have ever been - and there is a huge amount of work involved in doing a repower.

Still, in some cases it can be a good option.

A 3L or 5L (3 litre non-turbo) would be an easy repower as they share the same block as the 2L-T and will bolt straight in.

I have even heard of people turbocharging their 3L and 5L motors - but I have no info at hand on it.

A 3-L non-turbo will actually give you less poke than a 2L-T.

I can fairly much believe that. The turbos make a heap of difference on a diesel engine. Someone needs to produce an aftermarket 'kit' for turbocharging the 3L.

Turboglide does. expensive, but sweet. A larger exhaust and high flow muffler will get a 3-L going 10% better or more, and leaves you set up for turbo

5L engine comes in the Hiace and the Hilux 4X4 (although I am not sure what countries have this model).

It probably comes in other vehicles as well but I don't know which ones.

I found an aftermarket turbo kit for it here: http://www.axtturbo.com.au/Hi5L.html

There's also a kit for the 2L / 3L if anyone is interested.

I haven't seen ever (live or pictures) LHD Hilux with 3.0 except in some photos from Thailand etc. where they have been modified.
Also including 1KD-FTV in this 3.0 counting.
Or found sth... are these real? http://www.sonirodban.com/lhdvigo.html

Yes - they sell them here as the Toyota Hilux. Very common.

Yes - they come factory turbocharged.

The 'T' in the model number 1KD-FTV indicates turbo.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/grin.gif) Yes yes... I know Hilux, it has been sold here for at least three decades or sth, the most sold pickup I guess (and Hiace the most sold van) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grin.gif)

But they've been sold here only with 2L, 2L-T and now 2KD-FTV (and some gasoline engine but not nowdays). And in car programs mostly made in UK I've noticed those with 3 litre engines. 1KD-FTV has been appeared here only in Land Cruiser 95 (aka Prado). So the rare thing was left-hand drive Hilux with 3.0 :P

So let me check this... this kit, http://www.axtturbo.com.au/Hi2L.html gives you about 70Nm more torques, and 40 more horse power for a standard 3LD. Will that make it more thirsty or is it popping that desiel for effciently?
