Alright, I have an '87 N/A 5SPD, with the K&N FIPK, HEADERS, FREE FLOWING 2.5 EXHAUST, on an imported Japanese 7M-GE, with about 70,000 on it currently. The supra feels a little sluggish off the line (i dont have a problem spinnning my Nitto 235/45/ZR17's at all) but It doesnt really pick up speed until 4,000 RPM when it kicks, and takes off! i dont know why this is happening..any suggestions, or possible fixes?!

Ok, i am totaly taking a stab in the dark here but, it could be your cams, do you know of any internal mods to the car? the cams could be optimised for 4000rpm plus, making the car sluggish and lupy off the line, but do good things at the top end....

short of that i don't have a clue...

ben
89 turbo supra

Since the last time I gave any mechanical advice here I got slammed, I'm really hesitant about doing it again. Here's what I think for what its worth- adjust the timing.

I've noticed with the other kinds of turbo cars I've had in the past, if you fiddle with the timing you can adjust where the kicks in. I haven't ever used any kind of hard and fast rule for where to put it, I've just turned the distributor one way, gone for a test drive, figured out where it was at and then adjusted accoringly. A couple of things however, it can affect your top speed and I'm not sure how good it is for the car to be run like that.

Mine's doing the same thing ('89 T) here's what I think. I've noticed that the problem only occurs sub 3500 rpm on my supra, I only thought to look at the oil pressure gauge about a week ago. I found that the problem only occurs when the oil pressure is at it's lowest so maybe it's time for a new oil pressure regulator?
