Maybe you can get the kids interested in mechanics and have the Pinto as a project to fix!!! My neighbors accross the street from when I was a kid, were a family of 5 boys, from 12 to 18... their father broght a beat up old thing, I think it was a Renault 5, and the kids were working on the car every weekend, all of them. It was like the family project, more trial and error than anything else I think, and I'm sure they can do anything to a car with that experience! And congratulations on your homeschooling... I admire that!
