Hi, I've had my FJ Cruiser (automatic) for a month now & I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed any issues with the ignition. Maybe it just take's getting use to (I had a Ford truck before this vehicle) but for some reason I find I have to turn the key in the ignition for a half second longer in the FJ in order to start it. A number of times I've turned the key for what I consider a normal turn & the engine does not start. It seems like the engine has to turn over a couple of times before it will actually start.

I've also monitored my fuel consumption for the first couple of tanks of gas I have used, & I'm only averaging about 420kms per tank. According to my calculations thats about 17 or 18 litres per 100km (no where near the 13.5 litres per 100km it is rated at for city driving). I have really only used the FJ to go to work so far, which is a fairly easy route with only a couple of traffic lights (so not much stopping & starting).

Any thoughts? Is this normal, or something I should get checked out?

Colin I'm averaging 15 with my manual FJ and I noticed the delay and I'm moving over from a 4runner. kirk.

It's funny you all mention this. When I test drove one, I noticed the delay and asked about it.
The dealer said it's normal. Kind of bothered me though.

I didn't notice anything because I was going up from a small car. Except of course the hit to the wallet for gas.

I have an 2008 model FJ. Within the first week or so I actually let off the starter before it turned over three or four times. It must be normal but I got used to it. A starter will not typically overheat for a good 20 to 30 seconds so I am not concerned about it.
