I'm wondering what to do to improve the 10MPG i'm getting in my 85 FJ60. My 84 FJ60 got 15 MPG. I changed plugs checked vacumn lines, whats next. Also I have a hard time getting it to operating tempurature(bad for gas mileage). just installed a new stat but not much hotter. ANy ideas would be great.....oh, new member here thanks for having me.. Dugg

Is that a full time 4wd?

I had a 73 Blazer full time 4wd that only got 10mpg. My current 2wd 03 Tacoma double cab with the 2.7L four banger and automatic trans only gets 17 mpg in city driving.

SUVs aren't great mileage candidates.

The only surefire way to clean your fuel injectors is to have them removed and given an ultrasonic bath. This is like those jewellery cleaners you might have seen. Basically it's a small tub filled with detergent solution that is hit with ultra high frequency vibrations or sound waves. The net effect is that any carbon deposits are shaken off the fuel injectors. Clean injectors give a more even fuel-air mix which results in a more predictable burn in the cylinder, which will contribute to improved gas mileage.
