Everytime it rains or even gets damp from morning fog, my front brakes lock up just before I come to a complete stop. I have had into to the local dealer and they say this is "normal". Has anyone else had this problem? I have a 2004 model.

No, this is NOT normal. I've spoken to my proctologist and he said he found the dealer's head.

Does this happen only when you brake hard ? What kind of temperatures does this happen in. Because it may be that you don't have enough traction and need better tires.

Find another $tealer you can take your car to or find a local Toyota mechanic and have them take look at it. No, it's definitely not normal. Could be stuck pistons?

I had a similar problem and kept complaining too, but they just treated me like I was some dizzy blonde
and blew by my three requests to do something. So, I take the car to a non-dealer mechanic who was known to be a good troubleshooter. Seems the dealership had fitted the wrong brake pads on when they did a brake job for me. Arggh!

Sorry for the way you were treated. That's totally unacceptable from anyone.

Thanks for the info. I have been suspecting something like that.

Definately not normal...I have heard of this happening when you are trying to break in new brakes (or other sticking issues), but if they are not new, there is probably a problem.

Sometimes it happens with the anti-lock systems but it's usually when the driver is new to the car ...don't
think that's the case here.

No not normal at all. Also very dangerous. Sometimes dealers are lazy and don't want to satisfy or help the customer. That I never understood.

Yes, I think dealers are often lazy too, but I also think that we don't explain the problem well sometimes. If it's a problem that doesn't happen during a test drive, then we as owners have to be pretty explicit in our explanation of the problem. forums like these are a big help for that! Yes, Very True dealers try to sell cars and they aren't going to give any information especially if it costs them a sale. I learned to search forums like this and google things before I buy a car it helps me find out things about a model before I buy one.

I think where a lot of dealers make a huge mistake with customers is by trying to gouge people who come in for service. I've had dealers tell me how the service department is where they make their real money as the profit margins on new car sales isn't that high. They want people to use the dealer service departments for the life of the car. If that's so, then some of them aren't trying very hard to keep business!
